Newsletter: First quarter of 2025

Overview of all the things happening in the first three months of 2025

We recommen to read the browser THROUGH THIS LINK in your browser.

Dear <<First Name>>,

I’m seriously worried. The effects of the global economic crisis are still far from over, and Donald Trump’s trade policies are increasingly keeping me up at night. He has raised tariffs on exports and imports with Sri Lanka by up to 88%! This hits the country particularly hard — and the outlook for the DCC is just as bleak.

We continue to face high inflation, and growing global instability is causing more and more fear globally. Larger individual donations have all but dried up, and even my own company is going through the most difficult period in its history. I simply no longer have the means to cover the DCC’s financial gaps. It’s an absolute disaster.

And yet, we actually have reason to celebrate: in March, we completed our 100,000th spay/neuter procedure — a major milestone and an incredible achievement! Sadly, we haven’t even received a word of thanks from the government.

But let’s celebrate together and cover the costs for the next 100 spay/neuter surgeries!
Donate 30 Euros for 1 neutering
Donate 60 Euros for 2 neuterings
Donate 150 Euros for 5 neuterings

In the first quarter of 2025, we were not only able to maintain the number of neuterings at a consistently high level, but also continue all other areas of our important work.

Construction of the X-ray room and extension of the ICU

Thanks to your incredible support with the online voting, we received €10,000 from the Edgard and Cooper Foundation to expand our intensive care unit. At the same time, renovations are continuing on the “Old Clinic” building to create a much needed X-ray room.

While the costs for the new terrace roof for the dog pack and the interior work are already covered, we unfortunately still lack the funds for the urgently needed extension of the roof in front of the intensive care unit, as well as for modifications to the wastewater and drainage systems. The lawn also needs to be completely redone. Altogether, there are still significant expenses ahead that we simply cannot cover on our own.

On top of that, I’d really like to purchase a proper X-ray table for around €1,500. At the moment, we're using a stainless steel table, which reflects radiation and can’t be adjusted in height. We urgently need an upgrade here!

Deadly distemper epidemic

While I still don’t know how we’re going to close this huge funding gap, we’re battling the largest distemper outbreak Sri Lanka has ever seen. Distemper is a highly contagious virus that is fatal in most cases. Our vaccination campaign is running at full speed to protect as many dogs as possible, but the situation is extremely tense.

More and more cries for help are reaching us, and we’re facing the challenge of taking in infected dogs — but we lack the resources for proper isolation. Every dog we take in during this time carries an enormous risk. It’s an incredibly difficult and stressful situation.

But we can’t just stand by and watch. We have to take action — and we need your help! Every contribution, no matter how small, helps us carry out more vaccinations, expand our isolation unit, and support more dogs in this crisis.

Donate now and help us save lives!

Due to the distemper epidemic, we are losing many lives, but at the same time, we have also been able to save countless others! Perhaps you still remember these three special cases?

Pauly's transformation from a neglected street dog to a sweet teddy bear is the result of five weeks of intensive care with us at the DCC. He is now able to spend his sunset years with us.

After a terrible accident, Bammi's heartless owners chained him to their garden fence – and left him there for two months!! Fortunately, two tourists discovered Bammi and rescued him. At the DCC, we stabilized him and amputated the rotting stump. Now, Bammi is settling into his new DCC50+ home.

Because Rojer's family couldn’t afford a vet visit, they simply let their dog deteriorate. What a suffering for the Rottweiler! It took a long time before the family finally came to us. We are the only clinic that provides treatments free of charge! Without us, Rojer probably would have never received help. Today, he is healthy again, and we are urgently looking for more sponsors to fund a spot for him in our DCC50+ program! HERE is the link to his sponsorship page.

Pauly, Rojer and Bammi have made it but we get new patients every day!

It’s hard to believe, but Leo actually has an owner. Yet, as so often happens, far too much time passed before he was finally brought to us. The owner even wore gloves — disgusted by his own dog...
Leo's condition is shocking: he suffers from babesiosis, microfilariasis, a severe fungal infection, and several skin tumors — some of which have already burst. He is severely malnourished, and his bloodwork is alarming.
Leo will need long-term treatment with us. He can never go back to his previous "home." But to care for him permanently, we urgently need your support.
Every donation helps save Leo’s life and give him the future he so deserves.
Please help — for Leo!

ZWEITER HUND, DER GERADE IN BEHANDLUN IST

We take care of EVERY dog that needs help, pushing ourselves beyond our limits every day. Only thanks to your donations does the DCC remain alive and able to continue helping so many animals. Especially sponsorships are a valuable support, enabling us to plan reliably and strategically with the resources we have.

On our website, we currently showcase over 350 dogs and hoofed animals, who represent the thousands of animals we care for daily. At the moment, these four are urgently in need of sponsors:

Cindy and her four siblings were abandoned at just four weeks old. She is the only one from the litter who survived. We are now URGENTLY looking for kind sponsors to give her a great start to her second life. HERE you can become her first sponsor.
As a paralyzed dog, Paul requires special care and attention. He would be so happy to finally receive a sponsor. You can find Paul's sponsorship page HERE.
After a dog bite, a tourist took little Ellen to a local vet for treatment. The vet gave the puppy three strong antibiotics at once, putting her life in danger and risking long-term damage. Ellen is now with us. Unfortunately, Ellen still doesn't have a sponsor. HERE you can support her.
We have been caring for Erwin since he was a puppy. However, he has unfortunately always been overlooked and has now been waiting for a sponsor for seven years! Would you like to support him? HERE you can read his full story.

With your help, we can give them a future! Every monthly contribution makes a real difference and ensures that we can continue our work. Take on a sponsorship today and give a dog a chance!

There are many more ways to suppport us!

I ask all Instagram users to tag us in the comments under this post with @dogcareclinicev: https://www.instagram.com/p/DIBGumJooar/?img_index=1. With enough votes, we’ll make it into the final voting round and can receive much-needed donations from STRAYZ in the future.

A Google review also helps us. You might remember the unfair 1-star reviews we received? Thanks to your efforts, we were able to not only counter these, but actually improve our overall rating. If you haven't written a review yet, it would be wonderful if you could do so now.

Thank you for your support!

Thank you so much!
