Benita

Name: Benita
Breed: Mix
Gender: Female
Neutered/Spayed: Yes
Vaccinated: Yes
DCC dog for: 6 years and 7 months
Description:

On our daily feeding tour we encountered a bitch which obviously had had puppies recently. She seemed restless and on the search. One day earlier someone had dumped a carton box with five puppies in front of our gate. Could they be the puppies of this dog?

We brought Benita, as we named her, to the clinic and were witnesses of a touching reunion of a mother and her puppies.

We nursed up the family but despeite all our efforts not all of the little ones survived. Who knows how long they had been seperated from their mom...

But Benita throve well and we had to face a well-known problem: hardly anyone in Sri Lanka is intereted in a grown-up, female, brown dog. So we had to "buy" her a place in our DCC 50+ adoption scheme, our social program for animals and people. Here, she has found a safe home and her needy foster family has an (additional) income. Through the DCC 50+ we pay poor seniors who take care of one of our dogs a monthly pension. Like this, dog and owner are well taken care of.

Sadly, in June 2022 Benita had an accident and passed. We continue our care for her family and hope she is at a good place now. Rest in peace, Benita!
