Brave II

Name: Brave II
Breed: Ridgeback
Gender: Male
Age: ca 6 years and 3 months
Neutered/Spayed: Yes
Vaccinated: Yes
DCC dog for: 1 year and 10 months
Description:

What kind of odyssey has this ridgeback been through? The owner had seen several vets about a tumor at the base of his dog's penis. None of the doctors did any further tests, so it escaped everyone's notice that Brave not only had cancer, but also suffered from severe babesiosis. This is an absolute standard disease in Sri Lanka!! When Brave finally came to us, he was at the end of his strength. He was very emaciated, had extreme circulatory problems, breathing difficulties and cancer. His testicles, epididymis, prostate and groin are affected, later it turned out that he also suffers from skin cancer.

Within a few days, Brave gained nine kilos with us. His condition was not solely due to the misdiagnosis of the vets, but also to a lack of care from his owner. We got Brave back to normal weight and treated his babesiosis to make him strong enough for chemotherapy.

Actually, we wanted to keep Brave at DCC forever but he was really homesick and his owner mied him too. He frequently called and asked about his condition. Eventually, we decided to let Brave return home but we will continue our medical care and visit him regularly!

Update in June 2023: Late in the evening, we received a worried call by Brave's owner. He was not doing good. The owner rushed him to DCC but sadly Brave passed on the way to the clinic.

We are heartbroken... rest in peace, gentle giant friend
