An owner brought his over-bred shepherd with a skin problem in the middle of the night. Eventhough Rex was no true emergency case, our emergency shift was his rescue.
Rex seemed to suffer from more than just a skin condition and so we kept him in the clinic to conduct further checks.
And indeed Rex did not only have mites causing demodicosis but due to previous neglect his immune system was much affected.
He had to be "build up" by scratch which meant a very time- and money consuming long-term therapy.
We were able to spare Rex from going back to his useless owner and put him in our social program to help animals and people, the DCC 50+ adoption scheme. He spent many happy years when his bad past cuaght up on him. He passed completely unexpected.
