Allegedly, Wotan does not belong to the young man who brought him but to his friend who was visiting .... whoever this poor animal belonged to, the owner should be ashamed of himself! Wotan is a German Shepherd which was disastrous condition.
He was emaciated, babesiosis positive, matted and had a deep maggot wound on his paw. At least he was brought to us BEFORE his chain grew into his neck. Due to the friction of the chain links, fur no longer growed around the neck and it would not have taken long before wounds had appeared.
It is always heartbreaking to see how badly the dogs are treated here. Pedigree dogs are bought as status symbols. They come from poor breeding and bring all kinds of health problems with them. The owners are completely overwhelmed with the care-taking and simply chain the animals. So they eke out a sad existence for years until they succumb to their illnesses and wounds.
Wotan came to us just in time and we did get him back on his feet. He will stay with us forever.
