Lafey

Name: Lafey
Breed: Dobermann
Gender: Male
Neutered/Spayed: No
Vaccinated: Yes
DCC dog for: 5 years and 10 months
Description:

It was a picture of misery when Lafey was brought by his owner. Emaciated, suffering from severe skin diseases and wounds so deep and old they were maggot infested. Lafey was kept in a cage - he is one of thousands of pedigree dogs in Sri Lanka who are bought not because of love and affection but as status symbols.

We were fighting for Lafey's life and had to battle his illnesses, bring him back to his normal weight and had to rebuild his immune system from scratch. The neglect of the past will make him very prone to infections and so he will always have to rely on our help.

We therefore decided to rehome him with an animal lover who takes good care of dogs. Of course, we visited him regularly.

After a few months the owner gave Lafey to some relatives because of major renovation works. When we went to the new place we were shocked to see Lafey was chained! The chain was even set in concrete. We freed Lafey immediately,  took him back with us, nursed Lafey up yet again and with the support of kind sponsors he stayed with a DCC staff member.

But the neglect and abuse in the past took its toll in the end and while we fought so hard for his life Lafey left us forever in July 2019
