Tikira has been through a lot. We found her tied to the DCC Tuktuk. She had skin problems and some wounds which had received some treatment already. Apparently, Tikira was "too much work" for her owner and so he dumped the shepherd dog.
We nursed her up and found a family in the neighbourhood who adopted her. Everything was fine in the beginning and Tikira was happy. However, during one of our check-up visits we had to find out that Tikira was injured. Since they failed to inform us we took Tikira back. We were then looking for another good place for her and finally found a great family. For more than two years, we visited her regularly to make sure she was fine. Everything was perfect - until the Covid pandemic hit Sri Lanka and the government imposed a curfew. We were not able to visit Tikira anymore. The result was a bad demodicosis which was only treated when the owner brought her in finally.
We wanted to keep Tikira with us but she was really homesick. We had a lot of conversations with the owner and educated him on proper pet owership. Tikira went back to the home she loved but we visit her regularly.
Please become Tikira's sponsor and make her happy forever!
