Wanda was heartlessly abandoned outside the gates of the DCC in early February 2026. Sadly, her story is shared by many dogs in Sri Lanka. They are often adopted as puppies because they are cute and playful, but once they become ill or their care becomes costly, many are simply left to fend for themselves. For countless dogs, life on the streets means suffering and often death. Wanda, however, was fortunate. Before she could be hit by a vehicle, harmed by animal abusers, or attacked by a stray dog pack, one of our team members spotted her and brought her to safety.
At our clinic, we quickly discovered that despite everything she had been through, Wanda was in surprisingly good overall health. After being spayed and receiving her vaccinations, she was soon able to join our DCC50+ Program.
Today, Wanda lives with elderly local people in need. In return for caring for her, they receive a small monthly pension from us. Wanda also remains under our protection for life: we cover all of her medical expenses and visit her regularly to ensure she is healthy, happy, and well cared for.
