Cassandra was used to carry heavy loads. She was burdened way too much and when we learned about her situation, it was clear that we had to rescue her. This was not so easy, however, because the bureaucratic hurdles to have a donkey moved from one area to another are extremely high. However, with a lot of persistence, we finally managed to bring donkey mare Cassandra and her foal to us. Our donkey gelding General was very happy about his new company.
Cassandra is now allowed to live a sheltered life on our premises and will never have to carry loads again!
The situation of donkeys in Sri Lanka is catastrophic. We cannot help all of them, but hope to set an important example with every donkey rescued.
