Meckie’s fate seemed already sealed when we rescued her, along with four other Nubian goats, from the slaughterhouse.
Throughout her life, Meckie was quite adventurous and, after our herd leader Bob, the most curious of the group. She was usually the second to arrive at feeding time and would even venture a few meters away from the herd - though, of course, never too far. For goats, the herd is incredibly important, and they would never willingly leave it behind. With us, Meckie was able to enjoy a caring and protected life alongside her friends and never had to fear being separated from her herd.
Sadly, we had to say goodbye to Meckie in early June 2026. She passed away suddenly and unexpectedly due to complications from a viral pneumonia.
We are deeply saddened by Meckie’s far too early death, and it will surely take some time before our grief gives way to grateful memories of the wonderful years she was able to spend with us.
