Bertie was brought to the clinic by two tourists after he had suffered a serious accident shortly before. He had deep injuries to his left front leg, and his left hind leg was broken.
The damage was so severe that the hind leg had to be amputated the following day. From one moment to the next, Bertie had to learn to walk on just three legs – an enormous challenge, especially as his left front leg had also been injured. Yet Bertie showed an extraordinary will to live and proved just how much strength he has.
As a disabled dog who was also suffering from babesiosis, Bertie had little chance of being adopted. For this reason, he was taken into our DCC50+ program. Today, he lives with local seniors in need who provide him with a loving home. In return, we support them financially with a small monthly pension, while also ensuring close monitoring of Bertie’s health and providing him with lifelong, free medical care.
