Mandy

Name: Mandy
Breed: German Shepherd
Gender: Female
Age: ca 9 years and 4 months
Neutered/Spayed: Yes
Vaccinated: Yes
DCC dog for: 6 months
Description:

When will it stop??

The suffering of pedigree dogs is endless in Sri Lanka. We rescued this poor female German Shepherd ni September 2024. She was about nine years old and was dumped by her heartless owner. Surely, they got tired of taking care of her when she became sick and started losing her fur. A sick dog is worth nothing in the eyes of so many people here. It is absolutely heartbreaking and frustrating.

Pedigree dogs are bought from puppy mills where nobody cares about the health of the dogs. It is just a money-making business. The puppies are torn from their mothers way too early. The result: dogs who fall ill very often because their immune system is not strong.

Mandy, too, is at the end of its tether. She had a fungal infection, very advanced demodicosis, advanced babesiosis and really low kidney values.

It was a tough battle to get her through the first critical weeks, but her condition stabilized at first. Unfortunately, however, this did not last long and by the end of December Mandy was deteriorating badly. When she also stopped eating, we knew it was time to let her go. We had hoped so much for a miracle, but not every battle can be won.

We will never forget you, Mandy!
