Two sad eyes were looking at as out of a cardboard box placed in front of the clinic - an abandoned puppy. On top of the box was an envelope with the note "please don't kill". Inside the envelope were X-ray images of the small puppy that showed it might be paralyzed.
Someone took the effort of bringing the dog to a vet in Colombo (!) but decided to dump her like garbage when it became clear she would always remain disabled. Elena, as we named her, apparently was a burden to that person.
But to us Elena was never a burden. She was a dog in need of help. At the clinic, she received therapies, medicine and much love to give her as much mobility as possible.
She had a life in dignity with us till she had to share the fate of so many paraplegic dogs.
Due to the missing perception of pain and incontinence these dogs are prone to frequent infections and at one point her kidneys couldn't stand the stress anymore and failed.
Run free litte angel, we'll never forget you !
