Enja was brought to us by the Embark team. Much of her background is unknown, but what we do know is this: Enja once had an owner and – like so many purebred dogs in Sri Lanka – was used for breeding. When she became ill, she became a burden to her owner and was abandoned on the streets, where her condition continued to deteriorate. Sadly, many purebred and formerly owned dogs here share this fate.
Enja is a Great Dane – normally a proud, large dog. However, nothing of that was visible when she arrived. She was emaciated and suffered from a severe skin infection, demodicosis, as well as ehrlichiosis and babesiosis. At first, our veterinary team was unable to give a positive prognosis.
Enja now receives regular baths and treatments for her skin infections and Demodex mites, and we are slowly helping her regain her strength. Her recovery will take time, but we are now cautiously optimistic. Enja’s coat is already growing back, and she has been integrated into our main pack.
Due to her health condition, dear Enja will remain with us permanently and is still looking for kind people to support her through a sponsorship.
