Dear dog friend,

worries about financing the Dog Care Clinic are causing me many sleepless nights. In the past, I was able to help fund the DCC with my company's profits. However, due to the desolate economic situation, this is no longer possible and we are now missing several thousand euros a month for the care of the dogs. Once again, I have had to take tough cost-cutting measures. Unfortunately, I had to lay off half of our team of builders and also dismiss another DCC employee. As you can imagine, this was extremely difficult for me. In addition, I have greatly reduced the amount of meat in the food for the dogs and limited the vegetables for our hoofed animals to the cheapest varieties. I really don't know what to do next.

At the same time, we have had to deal with serious cases of animal cruelty in the past. The violence inflicted on animals in Sri Lanka still leaves me heartbroken, even after all these years. What would happen to these poor dogs without the DCC and your support?

Lucky was doused with a corrosive liquid by a neighbor and suffered life-threatening burns. His owner waited four days (!!) until he finally brought Lucky to us. We can't even imagine the pain the poor animal had to endure. Due to the high risk of infection, Lucky's life is in danger.

His intensive treatment costs us around 25 euros a day.

Kian almost died in agony in a barrel filled with tar. Someone had thrown him in there in cold blood. What could be going on in the minds of such people? Fortunately, Kian was discovered by local residents and rescued with great effort. He was immediately brought to us. It took several hours to wash the sticky tar off him. The result is severe skin irritation and blood tests revealed that Kian also suffers from babesiosis. He has to stay for several weeks for treatment. Due to his bad experiences, he is only slowly gaining confidence. We are now doing everything we can to heal Kian's physical and emotional wounds.

In addition to these two particularly dramatic cases, we have to deal with terrible suffering on a daily basis. But thanks to your help, we can not only give these maltreated animals love and hope, but also the chance of a new life.

Seven weeks of treatment have given Klod a new life.

Luckya, another neglected owner dog, has been with us for five weeks for intensive treatment.

Thanks to your help, we were able to achieve the following successes in the first quarter of 2024:

From January to March, we were able to spay/neuter 3,049 dogs and cats, carry out 4,446 vaccinations and 21,334 treatments. In addition, we performed 224 major operations such as amputations, tumor removals and caesarean sections. In the first three months of this year, we admitted 238 new (long-term) inpatients.

The former governor is yet again terrorizing the DCC

Long-time DCC supporters will surely remember the vile actions of Hemakumara Nanayakkara, the ex-governor in our area. Although the entire province benefits greatly from the DCC, my clinic has been a thorn in his side since the beginning. Why? Because I didn't buy his property at the time I built up the clinic. I purchased another adjacent property because it was cheaper. When he was appointed governor years later, he then shamelessly used his power to harass and bully us. Countless authorities were sicced on us, rumors were spread and demonstrations were instigated. But we were able to defend ourselves against all attacks. Then it was quiet for a long time, but now he has found a new way to harm me and the DCC.

We have a sophisticated sewage system at the DCC. This includes a sewer that runs the entire length of one of the sides of the property. When the clinic was built, I built a wall in front of this sewer to prevent the dogs from falling in. As the canal runs behind the clinic wall, Hemakumara now claims that it does not belong to the DCC but to his property. He had the canal drained and filled it in with garden waste.

This means a huge disaster for us! There is a very high risk of flooding during heavy rainfall. The majority of the clinic area would be affected. I am now forced to have a new canal built almost 200 meters long. The capacity of our water treatment plant is not large enough. We have to create a completely new water circuit. This is another completely unexpected five-figure expense!

Due to the urgency, we have started work despite the lack of funds. The workers are currently making advance performances. Your donation will help to pay the bills! A flood would not only cause enormous damage, but also endanger the lives of our rescued dogs!

There are good news, too!

We were able to take the first x-rays! Unfortunately, we don't have the opportunity to convert the X-ray room we need at the moment, but we have put the machine in our laboratory into use as an emergency solution. This has already enabled us to take important x-rays on four patients. We now very much hope that we will be able to raise the necessary funds  from external sponsors so that we can soon use the X-ray machine without restrictions.
I would like to thank everyone who has made this important purchase possible with their donation! You are fantastic. Without you, none of this would be possible!
