When Labrador bitch Cara was mated, her owner probably rubbed his hands with joy in anticipation of being able to sell the puppies at a high price. Prices are around LKR 45,000 per puppy, which is more than a month's wages for many people here. But unfortunately the owner has no idea about dogs and breeding. Not once did he have the bitch checked during pregnancy. She wasn't even vaccinated. When the birth started, he hesitated for far too long after the amniotic fluid had passed. The result was advanced amniotic fluid poisoning. After the admission examination, we immediately performed an emergency caesarean section. But the amniotic fluid was already green. The puppies were poisoned and there was nothing we could do for them. The mother was also in danger, but we were able to save her life! Since Cara, as we call her, had failed as a birthing machine, her owner didn't want her back.
