Emma and puppies

Name: Emma and puppies
Breed: Mix
Gender: Female
Age: ca 8 years and 10 months
Neutered/Spayed: Yes
Vaccinated: Yes
DCC dog since: 7 years and 1 month
Description:

Our early shift found a cardboard box in front of the clinic wall before sunrise. In moments like these we don't have to guess to know that some irresponsible dog owner had dumped the results of his unspayed bitch. But our vet assistant was quite surprised when she looked into the small faces of - believe it or not - seven puppies. Despite being packed to the roof we took the small ones in.

On the next day, an unspayed dog was running up and down the clinic street restlessly. Apparently, she had given birth to puppies recently. Could this be the mother of the seven puppies? We took her into the clinic and she immediately started licking the little ones and started breast feeding them. No doubt, Emma was the mother! Probably, she had been dumped, too.

We were fighting for the survival of the seven puppies and took care of the mother, too. Luckily, we were able to find ReHome places for all the small ones but Emma ha no chance for adoption being a grown-up (female) dog. Due to the limited space we could not keep her at the clinic and eventually got her a place in our DCC 50+ program, the social adoption scheme helping animals and poor people. Of course we continue our care for her and visit regularly.
In June 2023, Emma died completely unexpected. We continue our care for her now gron up babies.
