Sick and completely neglected, German Shepherd dog Sancho was discovered on the street. He too had once had a home, but was simply abandoned when he became too much of an "annoyance" to his owners. It is a fate that unfortunately awaits many pedigree dogs in Sri Lanka. Due to catastrophic breeding conditions, most of them never develop their immune system properly and are therefore very susceptible to diseases. The owners do not take care of the dogs, lock them up or put them on the street.
We took the poor dog in and took care of his numerous illnesses. Of course we are not going to put him back on the street, but will look after him for the rest of his life. In the meantime, Sancho has found a new home with one of our staff members. We can hardly put into words how happy this makes us! Of course, we will continue to take responsibility for Sancho’s well-being: we regularly check to make sure he is doing well, and we ensure that he receives medical treatment whenever necessary.
