Little Izzy was just a puppy when we found her and her siblings outside the clinic at dawn. The siblings had been heartlessly abandoned. It is quite possible that they were the result of an unspayed owned dog. The little puppies were frightened, starving and full of fleas.
Fortunately, apart from the parasites, the little ones were in good condition and all five grew up to be healthy young dogs. Unfortunately, Izzy was never adopted.
However, as our space is limited and we need to ensure that there is enough room for injured and acutely ill animals, we finally placed Izzy in our DCC 50+ program. Here she now lives with a poor animal-loving family who receive a monthly pension for Izzy's care. This is the family's only secure income. The family's husband is unable to work due to an eye condition. One of the daughters has severe physical and mental disabilities. The family receives no support from the state for their disabled daughter. Our DCC 50+ program is a lifesaver for both Izzy and her adoptive family.
We visit Izzy every month and make sure she is doing well with her family and of course all this comes at a high cost, but in a poverty-stricken country like Sri Lanka you have to combine animal welfare with helping those in need in order to bring about long-term change.
Izzy and her family would be extremely happy to have your support as a sponsor!
